Some nights, I catch myself still in work mode long after the day should have ended.
My mind is running through ideas, possibilities, and problems to solve. I tell myself I’ll take one more note, send one last email—then suddenly, hours have slipped by.
And then I look up.
Maybe my son is standing there, waiting for me to grab his firetruck and play.
Maybe my daughter wants to show me something she created.
Maybe my wife is nearby, offering a silent moment of understanding.
Maybe it’s just a message I meant to reply to but never did.
And it hits me:
The future I’m working so hard to build means nothing if I’m absent from the present.
And I know I’m not alone in this.
We are builders, creators, innovators—
People with visions of what could be.
People who push, strive, and see the world not just as it is but as it could be.
But in that pursuit, losing sight of what’s right in front of us is dangerously easy.
The people we love are the ones who believe in us, support us, and remind us who we are beyond our ambitions.
That’s why days like today—Family Day (celebrated in Canada)—matter. Not just as a holiday but as a reminder:
Success isn’t just measured in what we create. It’s measured in the relationships we nurture along the way.
So today, pause. Be present. Let the future wait for a moment.
Because at the end of it all, the most extraordinary things we build are the moments we share with the people we love.
Gratefully,
Edwin
P.S. The world you’re innovating will still be there tomorrow. Make a memory today.
